    1. Introduction

      The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cheng Shiu University was established in 1989, and graduate program was founded in 2003. The Department processes undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. program now. The Department aims to engage both in research and practical application, and cultivates students to be professional engineers with social responsibilities and human care to meet the need of industries. With the capacity and knowledge of Precision Manufacture Design, Automatic Manufacture, Mechatronics, and Energy Management, the young elites will be able to engage in the designing, manufacturing, analyzing, examining, and maintaining in the related industries. Additionally, to comply with the upcoming challenges of new hi-tech era, the Department will continue to advance the integration of knowledge of fundamental sciences and skills of engineering practices, cultivate students the competency of creativity and independent learning, and foster more professional mechanic and electromechanical engineers.

    2. Curriculum and Facility

      The major courses include Engineering Mathematics, Material Mechanics, Dynamics, Principle of Manufacture, CAD/CAM, CAE, Reverse Engineering, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration, and special topics.

      The major facilities include mechatronical workshop, machine workshop, engineering research and technology center, CAD/CAM lab, CNC machine lab, CNC measurement lab, design and manufacturing integration lab, reverse engineering lab, CAE lab, pneumatic & hydraulic lab, precision measurement lab, thermo-mechanical testing lab, material testing lab, fluid dynamics lab, mechatronics integration lab, mechanics and measurement lab, mechanical drawing lab, and sensor and signal processing lab.

    3. Teaching and Research

      In the teaching aspect,the theory analysis is taught with the practical application. The goal is to train students to fit into the trend of the industrial development. Three objects hope to be approached :

    1. Meet global competition to train students to be professional engineers.
    2. Integrate pneumatic & hydraulic engineering, mechatronics, NC tool, with CAD/CAE/CAM technique to achieve automation manufacture.
    3. Emphasize air-conditioning & refrigeration courses to develop its practical design.

     

      In the research aspect, the mechatronics, automation production, pneumatic & hydraulic application, and thermal-fluid theory simulation are focused and applied to meet the industrial requirements are particular interested.

    4. Future Goal

      In the future, the special topic research and the projects with regional or national industrial institutes will be emphasized to promote the experience and quality of professional education.
